Israelis celebrate 60th anniversary with spectacular military displays and barbecues in the park. For the first time, as part of Independence Day celebrations, fighter jets swooped in formation and paratroopers dropped into the sea along the coast of the sun-kissed city of Tel Aviv. Around 100 paratroopers from foreign militaries were taking part in aerial shows along the shore. Security was tight for fear of militant attacks and armed police stood by as revellers hit the beach in Tel Aviv.

Hezbollah fighters take control of large areas of the Lebanese capital. Security sources say at least 10 people have been killed in three days of fighting that erupted after Lebanon's government said that Hezbollah's military communications network was illegal, a move the pro-Iranian group said was a declaration of war.

A coker vessel on its way to Fort Mackay, Alberta from Edmonton in January/2007. I don't know the specifics, but it was approximately 175 feet long, 35 feet in diameter and weighed over 1, 000,000 lbs (500 tonnes). I did the security for this thing while it was on the move and always had to be ahead of it to ensure I was at the right place at the right time, otherwise I would have been stuck. It travelled at approximately 25 km/hr, taking six days to make the 6 hr trip. Various bridges in Alberta had to be reinforced to withstand the weight, and planning the trip alone took almost two years. Pretty cool!
